In the city of Mississauga, a building permit will need to be obtained prior to starting any major construction job. Depending on the size of your project, the design and building permit process takes one to six months to finalize.

Usually, smaller projects that don’t include changes to the house’s exterior or its footprint are completed faster. On the other hand, projects involving an addition to the house or changing the front to boost curb appeal can take longer.

After an architect completes your design, you should submit it to the building department. An examiner will be assigned to review your project to ensure it complies with local zoning bylaws, the Ontario Building Code, and any other applicable law. This step is required to obtain a building permit.

Four Major Phases to Realizing Your Custom Home in Toronto

CHOOSE AN ARCHITECTS

Designing a custom home in Toronto is an exciting and dynamic experience! Your first decision: would you rather work with a drafting technician, or contact a professional architect? ZONING RESEARCH

In the city of Toronto, your building application has to be in compliance with zoning bylaws (both new and old). PREPARE PERMIT DRAWINGS
